A Lifelong Passion For Fishing
Marcus Holmes has been connected to the outdoors for as long as he can remember. Introduced to fishing by his father at the age of just two, Marcus grew up understanding the power of time spent in nature — not only as a skill or pastime, but as a foundation for wellbeing, connection, and personal growth.
Alongside his lifelong passion for fishing, Marcus has built a career delivering impactful community projects focused on health, wellbeing, and participation. He founded and grew Shoot Academy South West, a community football programme supporting children across Somerset, and worked with the Somerset Rural Youth Project to increase access to sporting opportunities for 13–19-year-olds in the Mendip area.
Marcus went on to work within football, holding roles including Football Development Manager for Bath & North East Somerset, Head Coach of a Girls’ Centre of Excellence, and Director of the Somerset FA’s Disability Football Development Centre. His work has consistently focused on inclusion, opportunity, and using sport as a vehicle for positive change.
He is also the co-founder of Inspired Schools, a project that now works with thousands of children every week across Somerset, using sport and physical activity to support confidence, wellbeing, and life skills.
